Marseille 2024

Since Paris was awarded the right to host the 2024 Olympic Games by the International Olympic Committee in 2017, Marseille has been mobilized to organize the nautical component in the best possible conditions, in particular respecting the environment and an outstanding natural coastline.

Marseille is above all a dynamic city in the organization of sailing competitions, with an average of one hundred nautical events annually. Beyond the regattas coordinated by its local sailing clubs, the city of Marseille has hosted several international championships in recent years: World Sailing Games 2002, Audi Med Cups 2008 to 2011, Marseille One Design 2014 and 2015…

The attraction of Marseille for sailing is also linked to its major natural asset: its water surface, often described by sailors and racers as one of the best in the world. Benefiting from a favorable aerology, in addition to a configuration perfectly oriented in relation to the prevailing winds, the Marseilles harbour offers tactical conditions favourable to professional competitors.

This is how the location of the events was chosen: the southern harbour of Marseille will host all the Olympic regattas in 2024, via these 5 race rings planned as close as possible to the public, especially for the final stages. This location has the following advantages:

  • Variety of conditions offered: exposure to prevailing winds, tactical and strategic interest…
  • Proximity to the Roucas-Blancnautical stadium and its high level infrastructures
  • Proximity of the Corniche Kennedy which allows spectators and observers to ideally dominate the harbor and to be closer to the race
  • Proximity to the Prado seaside park which offers an ideal extension to the Olympic Marina
egarding the Olympic village, it is currently being studied to accommodate the 570 people gravitating around the events (athletes, technical staff, officials …).
